CS PREMIERE | Calvin Harris — Flashback (Sleepy Cat Remix)
Regardless of your current opinion of the international superstar that is Calvin Harris, it's neither here nor there when you consider the paramount effect his earlier works such as I Created Disco and Ready For The Weekend have had on both the dance music scene and it's listeners alike. For many, such cuts as Acceptable In The 80s, I'm Not Alone, and perhaps one of the most well-recognized Flashback, signify a more exploratory, less saturated time.
Though countless remixes of the latter track have appeared over the years, it's difficult to tire of that excellent vocal work, and it's rare to find an interpretation that really does them justice. But we're happy to be able to bring you one rework today that we can surely say does just that. LA-based producer Sleepy Cat has caught our attention over the past six months with a number of smartly selected remixes, and this newest one, a brilliant take on the seminal Flashback, further cements his imminent rise in our minds. Harkening back to that simpler period of Harris' career, Sleepy Cat has intelligently stripped back all the track's gloss and gotten in touch with the Scottish artist's indie dance roots, even more effectively than the original itself does. A vibrant array of alluring piano notes and crisp percussion next to a buoyant bassline have no trouble layering neatly underneath the resounding vocals. With an altogether irresistible laid back, summertime vibe, good luck getting this one off repeat anytime soon.
