Anoraak — Behind the Shades
The countdown to summer begins...well, always. Lucky for us, French electro-pop act Frédéric Rivière, aka Anoraak, has streamlined the wait until beach days and mojitos, offering the soothing Behind the Shades off their EP of the same name that drops January 27 on Parisian label Grand Blanc. The Nantes native blends together all the best ingredients on this one, layering distinguished guitar plucks, winding synth pads, and a funky-ass bassline to sonically teleport us wherever an ocean swim is on the agenda. The haters may say its elements are formulaic, yet Anoraak's talent lies in his ability to conjure an unyieldingly vivid atmosphere, full of reverb and drum hits, and hold our attention regardless of what others have done before him. He's graciously granted us a free download of the tune for 24 hours, so make sure to grab it before time runs out!
