Karma Kid — Like I'm On Fire
Although it’s been several months since 19-year-old Derbyshire native Sam Knowles, aka Karma Kid, released the collaborative Feeling So Special, hatched on-site of the Red Bull Studios in conjunction with Disclosure-backed Friend Within and Gorgon City affiliate Yasmin, there’s no question that he still resonates as one of the most compelling producers of “new age” UK dance music. The young’n rewards our patience this week with the spectacular Like I’m On Fire, the title track off of his forthcoming EP, ideally bridging the gap between a warm day at the park to a night out in the city. Echoing lasers and double-time claps warm things up for alarmingly intoxicating vocals, while sweeping bass hits stay true to Knowles’ garage influences. And although the title’s intention is surely to induce high body temperatures, the track reveals a greater sense of maturity than a standard club banger, presenting a series of feels that have no trouble coexisting in a very groovy format.
If that hasn’t already convinced you to all hail the Kid, you’ll be happy to hear that he recently teamed up with alt-r'n'b pioneer Armeria under the moniker Shy Luv to release a remix of London’s CHPLN, which switches up the vibe and openly celebrates downtempo, raw emotion. Both are serious winners, so dial in and stream the tracks below!
