Bag Raiders — Checkmate EP

It took us a little longer than usual to post about the most recent Bag Raiders EP, but that's only because we couldn't stop listening to it. The band's newest work, titled Checkmate, is the third three-song EP the duo has gifted us in recent months. Coinciding with the start of their North American tour, Checkmate brings our anticipation to a rolling boil. The title track and Magic Feel and are exactly the type of staples we've come to expect from this Australian duo, but it's Breakdown that is the undeniable highlight of this newest release. Complex vocal harmonies that rise and fall over major guitar and piano chords and a resoundingly simple drum beat create the unique sound that captured us similarly in Vapor Trails. It's as if the Beach Boys and The Temper Trap have decided to collaborate on a dance album.
