CS Premiere | French Horn Rebellion — Play Your Part (ft. Spencer Ludwig) [LEFTI Remix]
In early November, much to our enjoyment, Brooklyn–based duo French Horn Rebellion released their Foolin' Around EP. The 7–track set came as a riot of jams showcasing the duo's dance–inducing 'Next Jack Swing' signature style, and are the first original productions to feature their own vocal work since 2010. Now it's time for the remixes to start making an appearance, and we couldn't be more stoked to have the premiere of fellow BK dweller LEFTI's take on the EPs second single, Play Your Part featuring trumpet player Spencer Ludwig. It's pretty cool to see FHR, one of our longtime favorites, and LEFTI, whose every release we've posted without a moments hesitation this year, come together on this one. There's no doubt LEFTI has brought his A-game here, providing a grooving rework of the original through a combination of chunky synths, chopped vocals and big percussive breaks. Though it didn't seem possible, we can safely say he's made the track even more of a party-starter than it was to begin with.
We got to chance to hear what both sides had to say about the remix as well. Check that out below, and look for the full release of the Foolin' Around remix album, out via Ensemble Records in February 2016.
Robert of FHR:
"For the first time in French Horn Rebellion history, we had one artist that made it into every mixtape we did this year! That artist was LEFTI— and we are huge fans, even though we had never met. But when we did meet, and talked a bit, it turns out we had already worked together! LEFTI (Alex Suarez) was formerly in the fantastic indie-pop duo, This Is Ivy League. Through our friend Clyde at Twenty Seven Records they were our first ever remix commission back in 2007! (London Bridges, French Horn Rebellion Remix - google it!) It’s a pleasure and honor to now come back full circle. So excited for this remix and future collaborations."
LEFTI:
"This remix is special to me. What started out as a remix opportunity turned into becoming collaborative buds. When FHR hit me with a couple options to remix from the e.p., "Play Your Part" stuck out to me right away."
