Fort Romeau — Her Dream
Between the unquestionably immaculate LP Kingdoms and recent string of killer EPs, we’re both shocked and appalled that funky house titan Fort Romeau hasn’t eclipsed Disclosure in album sales. The former La Roux keyboardist brings one of the most consistent and infectious sounds to the game, and has remixed everyone from Alt-J to Cut Copy to Holy Other with absolute perfection. Just hearing the previews a month ago for his upcoming EP Her Dream got us giddy beyond belief, and yesterday the Ghostly International affiliate finally unleashed the outstanding B-Side of the same name in its entirety, this time on Frankfurt label Live At Robert Johnson.
Romeau’s finesse lies in his ability to create more than just cookie-cutter 4/4 house tracks that flood Beatport, and Her Dream is precisely that — an entrancing, innovative number that uses both erratic drum hits and spiraling synth stabs to build a cohesive and engaging experience, where you can lose yourself at the drop of a hat. Lasers? Yes. Unintelligible yet comforting vocal samples? Yes. This is one of those tracks that could drop at the peak of a DJ set or simply start you off right on the morning commute, and goddamnit that’s how things should be. Stream it below and also check out his remix of Cut Copy’s Free Your Mind, which is totally mind-blowing as well!
