Norwegian remix magician Kygo has never failed to blow us away. First with his back to back flips of pre-Overgrown James Blake and most recently with the marvelous remix of Kyla La Grange’s single Cut Your Teeth, the 22-year-old has established himself as both insanely innovative and technical, knocking it out of the park this week with his take on Swedish producer Syn Cole’s track Miami 82. Although the track actually operates as a submission for Cole’s remix contest in association with Swedish superstar Avicii’s LE7ELS RECORDS, it’s still a force to be reckoned with on its own, weaving the lush vocals of singer Madame Buttons into poppy drum kit textures that teleport you straight to the heart of a Scandinavian discotech. Thankfully, the young mastermind slows down the my-heartbeat-is-on-crack tempo of the original, removing its overbearing EDM bass and refitting the 80’s synth line, all of which fulfills the assumed intention of generating a Miami Vice type of vibe. It’s far from surprising to see Kygo blow up so much in the past year, as every single release he’s presented has been better than the next. Stream the track below and try to hold your breath until his return!
