PACES — Julian EP
Australia's PACES is out with his new EP Julian, the second from the Gold Coast producer, that's smooth swagger has kept us well and warm throughout the past week. A set of four tunes, two originals each accompanied by a remix, the EP plays out as an intriguingly diverse, genre-crossing blend of styles — incorporating elements of everything from garage, to future beat, to jersey club.
The title track, Julian, is all carefree vibes, with infectious steel drums bringing a tropical tinge, silky vocals courtesy of Erin Marshall, and just the right amount of grit to set it off. It's just this type of forward-thinking production that we're often taken aback by from these Aussie artists following in the footsteps of giants like Ta-ku and Flume. The B-side, Open Up Your Eyes, provides the ideal compliment, contrasting heavy bass with yet another round of enchanting vocals sure to take things up a notch. Rounding out with formidable versions of each from 813 and Chiefs respectively, solidifies that this release is definitely not one to be ignored. PACES has proved himself to be one of those ever sought after examples of what keeps electronic music interesting, creating something unquestionably fresh and completely individual to itself.
