Delorean — Unhold (Delorean Remix)
Delorean has had one hell of a 2013. Between releasing their fourth studio album Apar to positive reviews and experiencing the mind-bending reality of virtual kidnapping in Mexico City last October in which “the threat of death was real”, the Spanish four piece is miraculously still hungry for more, this time unleashing the always-interesting self remix of their pristine single Unhold. Backed by marvelous vocals from Caroline Polachek (one half of electro-pop outfit Chairlift), the lads employ Tron-esque synth arpeggios, heavy kicks, and glitchy snare hits to prove their finesse in creating both poppy and heavier dance numbers. While the original is far from mundane (and boasts a decent video too), the remix completely overhauls the track’s breadth and intention, sparing only a few guitar plucks to instead focus on elements of techno and garage. This comes as a relief if anything, as we witness Delorean’s aversion from being pigeonholed into any one sound or proficiency - something that in the age of micro-genres has come to limit an absurd number of artists. Stream the track below and be sure to check the calendar of your local venue, as the band is currently touring the US.
