Moullinex — To Be Clear (Original + Remixes)
It’s no surprise that Lisbon-based label Discotexas has been garnering so much attention, because as of late they have been absolutely on top of their game. Over a year after releasing his outstanding debut album Flora, label founder and nu-disco titan Moullinex emerged from the shadows last week to offer up the standout track To Be Clear as a 12” – featuring remixes from heavy-hitting talents RAC, Zimmer, and Kraak & Smaak – and teaching the world how to properly revive a forgotten anthem.
Contrary to his typical approach, RAC strips this one down and slows the tempo, showcasing a reverb-heavy synth line and chopping up singer Iwona Skwarek’s (one half of Polish group Rebeka) vocals into a relaxing yet enticing affair. Parisian wunderkind Zimmer, however, chooses a different route, repurposing the original’s pan flute and adding sexy piano notes to pitched down vocals that together supply an up-tempo, all-the-world’s-problems-will-be-fixed type of vibe. And of course, Holland’s Kraak & Smaak have no trouble whittling the track into a slow-burning dance floor hit, packed with hazy echoes and deep bass intended to make the club steam the fuck up. The EP in full will available for purchase on iTunes next week, but for now, you can stream it below.
