Allen French — Rosie (Original Mix)

Following up his stellar remix of Louie Vega & Jay 'Sinister' Sealée's Diamond Life this summer, LA–based Allen French is back in the mix with a brand new original entitled Rosie. He first delivered a taste of the track as part of his exclusive mix for us last month, and we've been eagerly awaiting it's release since. Rosie conveys the producer's continued talent for one-of-a-kind production, sourcing it's vocal sample from Alan Lomax's 1947 song of the same name, which was recorded inside the walls of the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. The lyrics spin a tale of a woman named Rosie who would sit outside the prison boundaries and tempt the prisoners that would never actually get to talk to her, and Allen French captures that emotive spirit perfectly here, enveloping them in entrancing beats of tribal percussive grooves, lively brass and fluttering pipe notes. Immersed in his signature worldly style, he accents the original's humble roots with natural ease, ensuring this one will have you swept away in no time.
