CS EXCLUSIVE | Fabich

Fabich-Exclusive We may not have actually gotten around to publishing an 'Artists to Watch' list at the start of this year, because life, but rest assured that if we had Germany's Fabich would without a doubt be on it. The Munich–based producer has made a big impression over the past year or so with a number of excellent releases alongside fellow countryman Ferdinand Weber, and now through more recent output is establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with all his own. So today, we couldn't be more happy to be delivering a brand new interview and exclusive mix with him. It's the perfect soundtrack as the weather begins to warm up, so grab your friends, indulge in some sun, a few libations and enjoy!

Caveman Sound: Kicking off, what’s gone into this mix you made for us?

Fabich: For this mix I selected my favorite tracks of the moment from artists such as Just Kiddin, Oliver Nelson, Zimmer, Autograf, KOA, Delusion & more...songs that I’d play at a beach party or a day club, a mix of Nu-Disco, UK & Deep House. Summer is slowly catching on over here and I hope that comes through in the mix!

CS: For somebody that hasn’t heard your music before, how would you describe your sound?

F: In my opinion the music I produce has a very positive, and sometimes also melancholic, vibe. I try to put a lot of feeling into all of my work.

CS: Your music has roots in House and Garage, and is often very vocally driven, what is it about these styles that resonate with you in particular?

F: Well, I’ve been producing music for quite a while now, and have worked with lot’s of different artists ranging from Pop to Hip Hop. I’ve always been a fan of House Music and Garage though — that’s the type of music I love listening to the most when I’m at home or out clubbing, so I guess that’s also the reason why I like producing it so much.

CS: We first got to know you through your collaborations with Ferdinand Weber, now that you’re starting to put out more solo work, has your approach to production changed at all?

F: My approach to production hasn’t changed much to be honest — working with a production partner is always fun though, since you can bounce different ideas back and forth, which often leads to something new and interesting that you might not have thought of on your own.

CS: Let’s talk about your recent release alongside Jetique, Love On My Mind. It’s been a massive success, with support flooding in from all over, so congrats on that! Can you tell us a bit about how it came together?

F: Thanks so much! I’ve known Jetique for quite a while now and he’s a great producer. His roots are actually in electro and progressive house, so it was amazing to be in the studio together and just see what happened when we combined both of our styles. We did a couple more songs together as well that I’m really excited about.

CS: Who are some fellow artists or labels that you’re really inspired by right now?

F: I love the stuff that Roche Music is putting out in France, or guys like Eton Messy and Black Butter from the UK. Can’t forget the Aussies though, I’m a huge fan of Future Classic :-)

CS: Living in Munich, how do you feel your environment influences your sound?

F: I’m really happy to live in Munich. It has around 1.5 million residents so there’s always something cool to do, but at the same time it’s not too big and after a while you sort of know everybody, if you know what I mean. I feel super blessed and grateful to have so many talented DJs/producers amongst my friends, such as Ferdinand Weber, Dinnerdate, Saint WKND, Mynga, Tai & LCAW and Delusion — who are all from this area. When we are not working in the studio together, we sometimes hang out or grab a few beers which is always a lot of fun! There’s also a great party scene and lot’s of festivals which is awesome.

CS: If you could dream up your ideal setting for a show, what would it look like?

F: As long as the crowd is feeling the music I think it’s great fun DJing anywhere. My favorite gig so far was in Strassbourg, France. The party was on a houseboat and it was crazy!

CS: What’s your go-to snack and/or beverage while producing?

F: My favorite beverage while producing is Spezi! Haha, it’s basically a mix between Coca Cola and Fanta, you can get it everywhere here.

CS: All—time favorite movie soundtrack?

F: That would probably be the “Buena Vista Social Club” soundtrack. It always gets me into a good mood. I listen to it quite a lot while cooking.

CS: Lastly, what should we be on the lookout for from you in the rest of 2015?

F: I have lots of unreleased songs and remixes lying around at the moment, and can’t wait to release them. Other than that, I’m looking forward to touring and hopefully partying with all of you guys soon! Haha.
